York Fitness Perform 210 Exercise Bike : nearly gym quality

This is my first amazon review but this product made me write one. I put the thing together in less than an hour, great instructions and everything just worked. It looks nice and the computer is really easy to use. The top thing however, must be the sound. Sitting next to the bike whilst my wife uses it i can still hear the tv fine without turning it up. I know other people have complained about this on ther bikes but it is nearly silent. Couldn’t be happier with the bike, but just a word about amazon. I ordered the thing yesterday afternoon and it arived today. I didn’t even pay for quick delivery, it was standard.

Arrived 2 days before it was expected, easy to assemble, sturdy, as comfortable as could be expected for an instrument of torture.

A handy bit of kit to keep you in shape, it has loads of different settings and easy to use. The seat could be more comfortable but you get used to it after a while. Here are the specifications for the York Fitness Perform 210 Exercise Bike:

  • 32 Levels of touch button resistance
  • Hand pulse sensors
  • 19 Workout programs, including 4 HRC
  • The left pedal screws in anti-clockwise, which is the opposite direction to what one may expect

Good and could so easily be great. I was attracted to this bike because of its generous user weight limit and the need to get some aerobic fitness back. I have now had it a few weeks and thought it was worth a review. As usual city link screwed the delivery but that’s another review. It comes in a large heavy box, i managed it easily but am also large and heavy, there are hand cut outs in the box that should make it a dream for two people to lift. Tools and fittings are all supplied shrink wrapped on a card, the tool quality is more than good enough for assembly and takes about 30mins with a cup of tea to hand. The bike is solidly built and almost noiseless in use. The computer is not as robust as commercial machines but then this won’t be used 16 hrs a day by all and sundry, as a home machine it’s very good plenty of programs and the pulse monitor has worked well. For someone as unfit as me the pedal action is smooth and there is plenty of resistance to go. I anticipate it being quite a while before it becomes easy.

York perform 210 exercise bike. Full range of adjustments for small to large user. Rugged (will take up to 150kg person). Good documentation both with the product and on york’s web site, (often not the case with many other exercise bikes). Overall have been very happy with this product.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • A solid bike, bit more instructions would be nice though
  • It’s a good exercise bike without doubt
  • Good value for money

After reviewing many and not really knowing what one to go for we choose this one and i am glad we did. It was easy to put together, solid and very quiet when you are using it. Lots of options for programmes.

Best thing i’ve ever bought. I bought my york 210 in november 2013’s black friday sales for around £160 and it has probably been my best purchase to date. Although i have given it 5 stars it does have some major faults but for what i paid, definitely worth it. First of all, it’s incredibly heavy so worth unboxing at the door and moving the individual pieces instead to your chosen room. Assembly wasn’t too bad – the worst part was putting the straps on the pedals so make sure you’re happy with the length before securing the other side as they are not easy to adjust once on – another pair of hands is always handy if available. Mine did actually arrive broken – one of the covers for the feet which had a lot of sharp plastic so ended up sellotaping that on – not a huge problem. Getting started on the bike, you can have 4 different people using it. Each can enter height, weight, sex and age which is required if you want an accurate calorie count etc which a lot of other bikes don’t include. You’ve then got various modes to choose from – manual to intervals with 32 levels of resistance. If you are a beginner, start out on level 1.

  1. It’s a good exercise bike without doubt. It’s a good exercise bike without doubt. Easy to assemble and quiet when using. I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that the seat is poor. The seat lets the product down. After pedalling for 12 minutes on a setting of 8 my bum was getting a bit painful so i had to dismount for a few minutes to rest. This compromised my ‘training’ as i wanted to do 20 to 30 minutes non-stop. Perhaps i’ll buy a better seat, but you’d think for the price the seat should be better.

Hr is accurate, great value for money. Just finished my first hour, been a regular exercise biker for 8 years, had a more primitive york bike. I’m quite impressed with the perform 210. It’s arrived fine, nicely boxed. But darned heavy, i exercise upstairs so had to carry it up in portions. Easy enough to put together, bit fiddly, but took under an hour. It’s very well constructed and like my other york bike, should last years. The dashboard in the computer is quite lively but not over lively and does keep you engaged with the session. I tried one of the programs, it has regular hill climbs which was testing. Now, to the pulse monitor, some are saying it’s not accurate, it’s very accurate,.

Ditch the yorkie, try york fitness. Easy to set up, easy to program and easy to use.
    1. Lost half a stone in 7 days. This exercise bike is amazing. I purchased it from “warehouse deals” at over £100 cheaper than new all because the packaging was a bit messed up. As a young adult, i decided that a bit more exercise to lose weight would be key. This bike by far does the trick and i am more than impressed with it. I strictly allocated myself 15 minutes of cycling time per night for a week and at the end of the week i had lost half a stone in weightthe bike has multiple program modes, 32 levels, heart rate sensor and is super quiet. This is probably the best item i have purchased this year and i highly recommend it to anyone interested in keeping fit or losing a bit weight. If you stick to a routine, then this will work for you. Excellent and i look forward for more weight dropping off.

Well built but not perfect. . Well built, but not perfect for me as supplied. The upright position did not suit me. 24 hours after delivery i tried reversing the front upright using just the side bolts, repositioning the handlebars as drops, and taping console on where i could see it. The new position felt good, and another 24 hours later i drilled the extra holes in the upright for the front pair of bolts to hold it securely. The heart-rate monitor gives inaccurate readings which jump all over the place. The solution – use my existing chest band driven monitor.

I thought i would leave it a while before posting as i brought this in november 2014. I use it 3-4 times a week on average and love it. I enjoy cycling anyhow but to be able to do this in the comfort of my own home i can wear what i iike rather than getting all dressed up to go to the gym. I can use this when it suits me so mainly in the morning early and i love that. If it’s raining outside i use this bike rather than my outdoors bike. My only criticism is i wish you could pause it during a workout and i’m sure you can on pricer models but i brought this in the black friday sale. It’s very quiet so you don’t have to worry about disturbing anyone downstairs or in other rooms. It’s easy to set up and to move around when you want to use it.

      1. A solid bike, bit more instructions would be nice though. Ordered this back at the end of october 2014, and began using it in november. Since then have tried to use it for thirty minutes a day, five days a week (and aside from two weeks have stuck to that regime). During that time the bike has been excellent. Building:unpacking and construction took about forty minutes from start to finish. Every nut and screw came on a clearly labelled, vacuum packed card which meant finding the correct part was easy. The instructions were relatively clear, and it was mostly a one person job, i just had to have someone hold the handles in place as i secured them. Usage:although the building instructions are clear, instructions on actually using the bike are very scarce. There’s no explanation of what each programme does. I’d not used a static bike before so a bit more explanation about how to get the best out of my purchase would have been handy.

Bought it one month ago, have used it most days. Good workout – resistance can be adjusted so that it really resembles the effort needed on a road bike. My previous exercise bike had so little resistance i just felt like i was turning the pedals with very little effort. Putting it together was ok, though i can’t see why they couldn’t provide some written guidelines rather than just pictures. It was easier with two people than it would haven been with one. The pedals weren’t easy to attach (which indeed is the same as a “real” bike) – so make sure you know which side of the bike is left and which is right (not as daft as it sounds, because you put the pedals on before the handlebars etc) and make sure you look for the little “l” and “r” on the pedals (and also on the straps). When attaching pedals, remember you have to turn the central portion of the pedal, ie the “axle” rather than the whole thing. The saddle seems very comfortable to me – much wider than on a normal men’s bike, more like a ladies saddle.

The york perform 210 almost deserves 5 stars. It is strongly-built, extremely quiet, and the instructions are better than the usual ikea-type pictures you get these days. (aside: why oh why do designers use black nuts and bolts to put together black pieces of metal?. If either one was grey or silver, it would help older eyes)but having paid out top dollar on the bike, you really shouldn’t have to carry on paying out money to get it up to scratch. First, the saddle, universally condemned by other reviewers. It must have cost less than 50p to produce. The only solution is to buy a proper saddle – amazon do a raleigh ‘avenir’ saddle for about £15, but while you’re ordering it buy a new saddle/seatpost clamp (another £5-ish) as well. The one supplied with the york saddle is defective, or the saddle is even worse than i thought – either way, only a new clamp and new saddle will fit easily. A little thought in the design would have meant a longer axle, so that your feet didn’t strike the body of the bike each time your ankles came up, or ‘cranked’ pedals, again to keep your feet away from the bike. Maybe a young, fit person with nice straight legs and feet would get away with it, but if you’re old and overweight, forget it.
