The rower arrived in a box that was a little battered but the contents were fine. It’s quite heavy and bits had poked through slightly in transit, check it before accepting unless your packaging is better than mine was. The parts are solid and it took some effort to get the main unit out of the box. 20-30 mins of following brief instructions and a rebuild on a couple of pieces saw it built on my own. The connecting bar saw some turning over and removing pieces to fit on but made sense when thought through. Be careful of the runners (sides) they are greased and you will come in contact when building. The action is pretty good and very quiet, the magnetic resistance has enough play to suit all but the olympians among us. The seat is nice and big which helps stability and the bar and strap do the job sufficiently for comfort. The footplates are chunky and easy enough to manage if a little slip up and down in with travel but not so as to be a problem.
Marcy rm413 magnetic resistance rower. I was in the market for a rowing machine as i seem to rarely find the time or inclination to go a gym, and was keen to shift a post-christmas paunch. Being 6’2 it took me a long time to find a rower, as many of the reviews made it clear that other machines were not suitable for people over around 5”9. The length of the rower, combined with its competitive price made me choose this machine and here are my findings:- the machine arrived promptly and well packaged. It should be noted that boxed the machine weighs nearly 30kg so takes some moving (especially if you live up a lot of stairs and the lift is closed for maintenance)- assembly is straight-forward and the instructions that are included are very clear. The only omission is that you will require two screws to attach the computer to the rower. These screws are not provided. – once assembled, the rowing action is smooth and quiet. This won’t disturb your neighbours if you live in a flat. – the resistance levels are okay for a beginner.
It is a good bargain for an entry level rower. Quality of plastic is not excellent but at this price you have to ignore the plastic, rest of it is fine. Here are the specifications for the Marcy RM413 Henley Magnetic Foldable Rowing Machine – /:

Good, until 4 weeks after the warranty expired. Bought this in january 2012, and have used it 2-3 times a week since then. Not the quietest or smoothest, but did a decent job – until last night, that is. One month after the warranty expired, the spring broke, nearly breaking my back with it. It’s now completely useless. I suppose you could argue that if you buy a product at the lower end of the market, 12 months regular use for £179 is a reasonable return. But i can’t help thinking that maybe i should avoid buying any marcy products in the future.
Good sturdy piece of equipment, easy to assemble and operate. Easy to assemble, well constructed, sturdy piece of kit.
Reviews from purchasers :
- Folds up to go into small space so we’re both very happy with it – just need to find time to
- Better quality than I expected
