Husband just had knee replacement surgery so wanted something to boost his progress during the wet autumn months when the slippy leaves on the ground made walking outside a definite risk. Specifically wanted a machine with magnetic resistance system rather than a drive belt, as our cross trainer works like this and though more expensive they are far superior. This exercise cycle has a lovely, smooth action, resistance is as much or as little as needed and it does allow for use under the desk depending on the desk height and how near you sit to it and it’s silent. It can be use in reverse action (pedaling backwards) though it didn’t say so on the instructions. I contacted amazon; they covered themselves by saying “no” but i contacted the manufacturer i was assured it could be used in reverse. A modification that would make this even more versatile would be the choice to purchase additional longer pedal bars (and blocks to lift the cycle higher off the ground so that your heel still clears the floor) allowing you to make larger circles with your legs. That way you can increase the rotation as desired and don’t have to splash out on another machine. The only negative is that reaching down to alter the tension control isn’t easy when sat at a desk with the machine anchored to your chair. You have to to get off your chair to do this, then try and get your feet back in the footrests in the darkness under the desk.

    Goodbye sedentary desk time. Virtually silent and i’m using it right now while typing (in a shared office space). I do have to scoot back a bit to use it because the distance from the carpet to the underside of my desk is just 69cm so if my knees were under the desk then they would hit the desk when i pedalled. But, with a carpeted floor, it stays in place and it is possible for me to use my mouse or, with a bit of stretch, to type on my keyboard. I let my colleagues try it as well and some of them want one for themselves. The display (which i have on my desk) says that i’ve burned 300 calories in the two hours that i’ve been at work. I just don’t like sitting still for long periods of time though so this helps me to avoid that. Assembly was quick and straightforward and didn’t require any tools other than the spanner that was provided in the box. I got it yesterday and was using it within 30, maybe 20 minutes.

      1. It’s solid and heavy and was easy to assemble (i was very careful with the pedals as instructed). The user instructions say to pedal downwards rather than forwards, which means that your knees bend a lot. I wish i had ignored that and positioned the machine further away from the chair because after a few weeks i have such bad hip pain i feel 30 years older – and that is in my (previously) good leg.My physio told me to buy it to exercise my other knee. So now i can’t even mow the law or park out of town and walk in, or stand for hours at work. So many extra expenses on top of the initial purchase.

One thing i would say is that it’s possible that if you are too tall or your desk is too low this may not work for you- luckily for me my height/desk height are ideal. Also, use their online calorie calculator as the display provided is very inaccurate (mostly because it assumes you are using the top resistance setting).

    1. Bought mine for ‘tellycise’ and works perfectly from my arm chair. Easy to clock up 1-2 hours watching tv and hardly notice your using it. Not convinced it works with a desk but great at tv.

  17. Brilliant, compact set of exercise pedals. The extra expense in getting a proper magnetic cycle is absolutely worth it. And it’s a sleek, modern design, and doesn’t look like a boring grey box. It’s just high enough to use it comfortably while sitting in front of the telly; before you know it you’ll have done 50km. In daily use i’ve never taken the magnet beyond “4”, usually i stick to “2” with a shorter session on “3” for some extra exertion. (“8”, by comparison, is like cycling in treacle-filled waders waist-deep in a tar-pit. ) 50km on “2” isn’t quite enough to lose a lot of weight, but i’m finding it’s burning enough of those extra calories i wouldn’t otherwise be expending to certainly prevent additional weight gain, with a very gentle average weight decline. If i could get cycling longer on “3” i could image that being enough to tip the balance in favour of more weight loss. The way the led display is attached, and given the low profile, it’s rather too easy to accidentally knock it. While it seems pretty robust against average knocks, i suspect it might not survive a really good unintentional whack.
